I have taught at BMCC since Fall 2007. Influenced by the study of political theory and by experiences in political action, I try to make each of my courses an occasion for students (and for me) to become more thoughtful observers of public life, the better to participate in it.

Current Interests
As a teacher, I am interested in what happens if we take writing to be a kind of thinking. As a scholar, I work toward a political theory that locates ideas in history and that interprets the meaning of political actions. I have written about European social democracy, the American traditions of labor and community organizing, and the concept of solidarity.
